Coach Murray grew up in Scotland where both grandparents and dad
were top professional players. He spent several years at
Dundee United before signing for Glasgow Celtic at a young
age (high school age). After four years there he had to
put his Football Career to an end due to a broken leg, Coach Murray
then focused on academics and received a distinctive Degree
at Dundee University and a post Graduate Degree at Abertay
University, and this led him to prioritize the development of
student athletes. Coach Murray then worked with the coaching staff at
Brechin City and Dundee FC with young teams before coming
over to the US in 2002.
Currently Coach Murray is Director of Coaching at San Clemente Surf, and has developed numerous college athletes with several boys and girls going onto be college captains. Following high school I moved to Connecticut where I continued playing at Post College. After Marrying my wife Lynette we moved to San Clemente in 1986 and raised 4 boys: Brian, Ben, Sam, and Beau. The 3 oldest boys were 4 year players in the SCHS soccer program from 2002 to 2012. Sam was a State Champion at SCHS and went onto captain San Francisco State University.
Co-founded SC United (now SC Surf) in 1998 and served as head coach of several teams, the Director of Coaching and Club President for several years. During my time with the club I had the privilege of working with many great players some of whom are still in the SCHS record book today including Kyle Graham and Andy Martinez (SCHS all time top scorer with 65 goals)

Coach Velazquez Began playing soccer at the age of 6 but loved the ball way before then. So much so that getting the ball taken away was used as a punishment by his parents. You can say he was and is very passionate about the sport. Growing up, he played on his dads U7 Sunday league team, AYSO, Club soccer with Capistrano FC and West Coast, and High School soccer at Capistrano Valley. After Highschool, Luis (Junior) joined Strikers FC semi-pro team where he played for 2 years. After his time there he went on to play for 3 other clubs in UPSL.He continues to play at a Semi-Pro level with Capistrano FC in NISA Nation and USL 2.
Junior is going onto his 5 th year coaching at San Clemente high school. His 3rd year with the Boys Soccer program. He has been in the coaching scene for about 7 years now and is truly grateful to be able to work with such great kids and families in such a wonderful community. Junior doesn’t only want to help guide these young men to become better soccer players but also even better people on and off the pitch. Just like every other year before, he is very excited and looking forward to the season ahead.
Junior was born and raised in the beautiful town of San Clemente. When he isn’t coaching at the high school, he is working construction with his dad and brother, coaching his club teams at SC Surf, training on his own or with his team, or spending time with family and friends.
